Call of Duty: Black Ops DLC, "Escalation" Announced

Treyarch announced the release of the next map pack, "Escalation," first on Xbox 360 on May 3, 2011. Arriving in this map pack are four new multiplayer maps: Zoo, Convoy, Hotel, and Stockpile as well as a new addition to zombies entitled Call of the Dead.

To celebrate the release of Escalation, there will be a double XP weekend starting Friday, May 6th. At this time there is no set release date for PlayStation 3.

Duke Nukem Forever: Delayed

Last week Gearbox announced a delay in the release of the latest game in the Duke Nukem series: Duke Nukem Forever. Originally set to be released in North America on May 3rd, fans will now be waiting until June 14th to get this game. Gamers have been waiting about 14 years for this game, so, what's another month, right?

Duke Nukem Forever will be releasing on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on June 10th internationally and June 14th in North America.

Call of Duty: Black Ops DLC Announced

Last night majornelson tweeted out that Treyarch's very own Dan Bunting aka danskdansk would be announcing details on the upcoming DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Arriving in February 1st to Xbox Live, First Strike will contain 4 multiplayer maps and 1 Zombies map. Berlin Wall is set at Checkpoint Charlie, the well known crossing point between East and West Berlin. Discovery is a German research station in Antarctica, abandoned from World War II. Kowloon is inspired from the campaign and is a ray rooftop map. Last but not least is Stadium, an athletic complex/hockey rink set in Northeastern United States.

Dan Bunting was tight-lipped about the new Zombies map, Ascension. Definitely looking forward to this map what with the air of mystery surrounding it.

Remember, First Strike drops on February 1st for 1200 Microsoft Points.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Water Pistol Giveaway Details

This is an emblem creating contest. Some of you may know that my gamertag is KillaMonkey 713. I have yet to be able to create an awesome emblem that fits my gamertag. That being said, it doesn't have to be a killer monkey (that's what the name means, by the way) but something that fits the gamertag. Create-a-class has seriously gotten a makeover. The perks you choose in the Perk 1 slot determine what your character is going to look like. You can fully rotate your character to see what their outfit and gear combination look like. It is pretty sweet.

But let's get down to the good stuff.

Like always you have your two types of grenades, but this time they're not simply primary grenade/secondary grenade. Nah, they made it interesting. They're now called Lethal and Tactical. Lethal are your primary grenades--frag grenade, Semtex and a Tomahawk. Now, I realize a Tomahawk is not a grenade, this is most likely why the name change came about. And let me tell you, that Tomahawk is badass. Tactical grenades are your Willy Pete (a smoke grenade), Nova Gas (like Tabun from World at War), Flashbang, Concussion and Decoy, a new addition. Decoy simulates gunfire and radar indicators. I didn't try that one out but I wish I had to see how that one works.

There is some new equipment that you can use as well as some other favorites that are making a return. We now have the option of using a Camera Spike which we saw in the MP trailer we've all watched a hundred times, C4, tactical insertion, jammer, motion sensor and claymores. Motion sensor is a pretty cool perk as is the camera spike. I'm looking forward to using those.

Perks--

A lot of people have said they didn't want to see OMA, Juggernaut, Commando etc make a return. Well, here's what you get to see that made it into the game.

Perk Slot 1--

Lightweight, Scavenger, Ghost (invisible to spy planes etc), Flak Jacket and Hardline (same perk as in MW2)

Perk Slot 2--

Hardened (bullet penetration), Scout (hold your breath longer), Steady Aim, Sleight of Hand, and Warlord (basically the same as Bling from MW2)

Perk Slot 3--

Marathon, Ninja (dead silence), Second Chance, Hacker (detect enemy equipment and explosives) and Tactical Mask (like gas mask)

Ok, so I woke up earlier than planned due to the fact my stomach felt like it was eating itself due to starvation so I figured I'd update the rest of the weapons info while I eat, since I did fail to get some things written down originally.

When I originally posted about the attachments, I didn't think to look at ALL the weapons individually to see what attachments you could use so, I did check out a few more to give you all a better idea what your options are for some of them. These are in addition to what I have previously posted

Call of Duty: Black Ops MP Reveal

Tonight's event starts at 6pm PDT which is a little late for those of you across the pond, but it's a reasonable hour here. We're still not in on all the details for tonight but this blog will be updated with the info that I find out. So keep an eye out!

Xbox Live Price to Increase in November

Microsoft announced that the prices for Xbox Live will increase starting November 1st. Twitter and Xbox's majornelson posted a new blog post describing in depth the price increase. For the U.S. the price of monthly subscriptions will go from $7.99 to $9.99, 3-months will rise from $19.99 to $24.99 and a year will go from $49.99 to $59.99.

Xbox currently has a deal to lock in one year for $39.99 which is less than the current going price. Sounds like a good deal to me.

The price for Xbox live has been the same since 2002. The increase is said to be worth it with the new additions coming for Xbox Live Gold users.

Anticipation Grows Around Call of Duty: Black Ops MP Reveal

Last week JD 2020 told us that there would be an MP reveal for the newest installment of Call of Duty on September 1st. He teased us again when he told us "Remember remember the 1st of September; the Killstreaks, Attachments, and Game Modes surrendered!" There has been a lot of chatter around the web and in gaming about what people think they'll be told is in the game and what this event is all about. We haven't been told a lot about the event itself and that just makes me more interested. It seems like people are getting pretty excited and anxious as we get closer to the 1st. I know I'm pretty curious to see what all will go down.

Rock Band 3 Partial Setlist

Apparently there have been people saying that this song or that song has been confirmed for Rock Band 3. Truth of the matter is they've only confirmed 38 songs to date. Sites are stating they have the full setlist already but why would they release the full 83 song list so early before game's release? Kind of takes the fun out of it. Granted, they do have written on their website the following: The full Rock Band 3 set list will be revealed over the coming weeks leading to launch." Fair enough, but we're not near the launch quite yet.

Call of Duty: Black Ops MP Teaser Trailer Debuts

People have been waiting, rather impatiently, for quite some time to receive news about Call of Duty: Black Ops' multiplayer. This morning their MP teaser trailer was released as we saw on JD_2020's Twitter. Throughout the day there have been many breakdowns of what people saw in the video, opinions and thoughts shared and a ridiculous amount of views of this video. As of tonight there have been almost 400,000 views.

I have seen arguments ensue over Twitter in regards to this video and their respective opinions about it, the game, Treyarch, Infinity Ward and everything in between. I personally have declined to share my opinions about any of it.

I will say this, however, I am looking forward to the game, as I've already stated in the past. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and are free to share their opinions in whatever form you so choose; I just prefer to stay out of the fray.

Halo: Reach Bundle Announced

The other day ago Microsoft announced the Kinect bundle which seems like a great deal but then something else came along: the Halo: Reach limited edition bundle. With that you get the new Xbox, complete with 250 GB hard drive and WiFi in an awesome silver color. To top it off, it makes sounds that Halo gamers around the world will recognize. Also in the bundle will be 2 wireless, that's right, WIRELESS controllers decorated with art from the Halo games. Of course, Halo: Reach is included in this bundle, all for $399. Overall, not a bad deal if you're a hardcore Halo fan (which, I really am).

Bear in mind the redesigned Xbox currently goes for $299 and wireless controllers alone are $49.99 each so this Halo bundle is a pretty sweet deal. And, helloooo, you get the game as well.

Halo: Reach releases September 14, 2010

Kinect Price Finalized

Microsoft announced a finalized price for the Kinect at $150. This price is pretty much what we thought it would be. They also announced a Kinect bundle which will include the Kinect, the redesigned Xbox with 4GB internal memory and the game Kinect Adventures. This smaller (memory-wise) Xbox won't look as nice as the other new ones (no shiny finish) but will still have everything you need like WiFi. I'd say this bundle is a pretty good deal all in all.

Microsoft seems to have high hopes for the Kinect. It will be competing with the Nintendo Wii and also the Playstation Move (another peripheral which will debut this fall). I'm pretty stoked to try it out for myself. The bundle is tempting but I'd rather have the bigger hard drive for the Xbox so, I think I'll get the Kinect first.

The Kinect is set to release November 4, 2010.

Activision Rocks E3

Activision's event to kickoff E3 had people talking everywhere. Open only to those invited, rumors were flying about what was to go down behind closed doors. This lucky girl got in thanks to this wonderful blog. I definitely lucked out. The Staples Center was definitely full of people waiting to see who was going to hit the stage. The event was supposed to start at 8:30pm but we didn't end up getting to grab a seat until closer to 10pm. Why? Sound check went long. Or so we were told. Rumors were that someone missed their rehearsal. Either way, I don't care because when the lights went down my excitement level hit the roof.

DJ Z-Trip was the first to hit the stage. He definitely got my attention when I heard the opening bars to a song that is a strong memory in my mind. Super Mario Brothers was a game I grew up with and I'll never forget that theme song. DJ Z-Trip definitely got the energy up a bit with his opening act.

There was a choreographed dance to Lady Gaga's "Just Dance" but Lady Gaga did not make an appearance despite the rumors circulating that she would be in attendance. Kind of a bummer because I think that would have been pretty cool but they did a great job without her. And who doesn't like watching scantily clad women dance on a stage?

Deadmau5 took the stage helping to promote DJ Hero 2, a game that I am sure will be a hit just like the first one. I've never actually had the opportunity to play DJ Hero but I've heard great things about it. Also helping to promote the game was David Guetta who rocked our worlds by playing "Sexy Bitch" as well as a couple other numbers.

Usher appeared on stage to perform next singing "Caught Up," "In This Club," and "Yeah." After that will.i.am joined him on stage to perform "OMG." Talk about amazing. At this point I know my eyes were the size of saucers in amazement at the performers Activision had brought in for us. They were going beyond anything I'd ever imagined I'd see that night.

Tony Hawk and some other pro skaters took the stage to promote Tony Hawk: Shred. Apparently they'd had a large ramp set up but there were some technical difficulties that made them take it down. They left the stage and up next on the screen was a Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. The game characters began singing Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and Maynard James Keenan of Tool and A Perfect Circle joined the stage singing the song for us. He was accompanied by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and a gospel choir. The choir members' stoles said "Save Rock," and I thought that was a fantastic touch.

Jane's Addiction hit the stage to perform "Been Caught Stealin'" and "Mountain Song." After that Chris Cornell sang "Black Hole Sun" for us accompanied by the Philharmonic Orchestra. Soundgarden will have a new song on Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. This will be their first single released in 13 years. The game will debut this fall.

A 3 story pole was lowered from the ceiling to the stage. A woman took the stage and stepped up to the pole. Apparently she was a world-famous pole-dancer. She truly takes pole-dancing to the extreme. She danced her way at least 3/4 of the way up that pole. It was something you really had to see to believe. She had no wires securing her as she danced, nor was there a mat below her. She knew her art and performed beautifully. I've never seen anything like it and probably never will again. I'm just glad I got to see that.

There was a preview of True Crime: Hong Kong which will be released this fall which was accompanied by Pharell Williams and N.E.R.D as well as up-and-coming new artist Rhea.

Next up was our opportunity to see the level Payback from Call of Duty: Black Ops. I was enthralled with this level. As you recall, during the First Look Preview Event we only got to see two levels so seeing something new was definitely a pleasant surprise. The level was accompanied by the Los Angeles Philharmonic as well as some pyrotechnics. I definitely jumped when the pyrotechnics first went off. Here are some images I managed to catch.

As amazing as that was the best part of the night for some was up next. A Black Ops back drop with a twist came up on the screen. Eminem took the stage to perform with Travis Barker of Blink-182 fame on drums. Eminem performed his part from "Airplanes Pt. II" as well as "Not Afraid" and then debuted a new song from his upcoming album Recovery called "Won't Back Down." He told us he brought someone to perform with him and Rihanna took the stage to sing "Love the Way You Lie." He said that was all for tonight and left the stage only to return to perform "Lose Yourself." All in all it was an amazing performance by everyone who hit the stage. I don't think anything could have topped that evening.

Activision, you truly rocked my world Monday evening. I never in a million years imagined an event like this. What a fantastic way to start E3 2010.

E3 Hits Los Angeles This Week

E3 hits L.A. this week with the actual event being June 15-17 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. It's sure to be a big event this year. There are tons of exhibitors and a lot of announcements being made this coming week. I know that I'm interested in finding out what is to come.

Activision is kicking off the week on Monday night with an invite only event about which a lot of rumors are going around. As we all know Call of Duty: Black Ops comes out this year so I'm sure they'll be giving us a little bit more information about what we will see. The rumors are that there is going to be a big ticket performer that night. I've read a lot of names and a rather large dollar amount thrown out there about what will actually happen that night at the Staples Center. How big is this really going to be? What could they possibly be doing there? It definitely makes you wonder, especially with it being invite only.

Project Natal is another thing to look forward to at E3. Xbox gamers saw the video about it on the dashboard last June and have been waiting ever since to find out when it will become available and for how much. Tonight is the actual premier for Project Natal and according to Major Nelson "MTV records it. Plays it back Tuesday. It is NOT available LIVE via stream, etc." This is rather disappointing for anyone not attending the event, but, rest assured you'll hear about it because Major Nelson also said "And yes, I'll be tweeting from it tonight...you will want to be watching my tweets." Well, I will certainly be checking Twitter tonight to see what he has to say, along with a lot of other people.

There will be tons of things to hear and see during E3 and parties afterwards to attend. I'll be tweeting out news and posting here this week. This is sure to be an enlightening week!

The Call of Duty: Black Ops First Look Preview Event!

Here it is folks, the post you've all been waiting for. I warned you, it's long, but it's worth it!

Friday started out with excitement in the air. I live in the area so I had to meet the guys at Treyarch. I was told they would be picked up from the hotel at 1:30 so I left at the same time. Shortly after I got there I saw a black shuttle pull into the parking lot. Perfect timing. Our time had come. We filed into the lobby and signed our NDAs (non-disclosure agreements). We got a couple of group shots taken and then the community manager, Josh Olin (the famous JD 2020), ushered us out of the lobby. We made a pit stop at the kitchen then we entered an extremely red room. I don’t mean the walls or the carpets were red but the room was flooded with red light. The walls were covered with documents and the conference table had a phone on it you would have expected to have seen in the White House a long time ago. It looked like a War Room. There were seats for us to take and I, being rather short, took one in the front row. John Rafacz and Josh Sellinger took the floor to begin. They laid down the law for us about how things were going to go down.

We were told we were going to be seeing two levels. You could hear music and see the opening title screen. The music was almost eerie, but it fit. I can’t even describe it but that music alone piqued my interest.

The first level was saw was WMD. You’d recognize it from the gameplay trailer that aired not too long ago. This level was in the snow and you are equipped with a camouflaged crossbow with a scope. Talk about badass. You see a couple different weapons in this level: the crossbow which also had bolts with exploding tips, an AUG with multiple attachments and camouflage, and an AK-47. We got to see the SR-71 in this level and found that you got to direct troops from the air. There is also a slo-mo breach in this level after doing some rappelling. At one point you see someone get a throwing knife to the neck. I gotta admit, I didn’t see that coming, but wow, was it extremely well done. At the end of the level you take a running leap off a cliff into nothingness. What is cool about this jump is you can actual move your guy as you’re in the air. I know I’m not even doing this level justice. You really have to see it. You have the option of either moving stealthily or rushing in balls to the wall. The guy who was playing through the level chose to go balls to the wall and thank god for demigod mode because I’m pretty sure there were times he would not have survived through the level. Not all of us can be the best player, I know I’m not. I could use my own demigod mode to get through campaigns, I just can’t do it without dying multiple times, and I play it on Normal!!

The other level we saw was Slaughterhouse. This is the Battle of Hue City during the Tet Offensive. We are in a chopper to begin with and rappel down the rope air assault style. In this level we see the SPAS-12 with incendiary rounds called Dragonsbreath. I gotta tell you, I’m REALLY looking forward to using that weapon. It is the epitome of awesome. Generally, I avoid shotguns in the Call of Duty games but this one I’d really like to try out. Who wouldn’t want to set people on fire?? We also see the CAR-15 Commando as well. You see the SOG take over command and order fire on various points in which you direct. I do recall seeing an M113 tank named Bottom Feeder during this battle. I like their style.

Cesar Stastny took the floor to tell us about the PC platform. There wasn’t a definite answer about mod tools, a question I know a lot of people were curious about. But, there was an answer to a different question that people cared quite a bit about. Cesar and Josh bared their chests in a Superman-esque movement to reveal a shirt that answered a very important question. What did that shirt say? Dedicated servers. That’s right, it sure did. What does that mean to me? Not a thing, as I’ve never been a PC gamer but it seems to be an answer that will make a lot of PC gamers quite happy. He also mentioned that there was an improved browser.

Dan Bunting and David Vonderhaar also took the stage to talk to us a bit about multiplayer. One change that came about in the making of this game was the fact that the team working on MP began working on it from Day One. They told us that there were maps that were designed specifically for MP and that no maps were taken from SP for MP. Host migration will also return. One thing that really hit home for me is they said “why change something that works?” What does that mean? Leave with party is back! No more telling the party you are with, provided you’re the party leader, to back out on you. No more losing people left and right because they didn’t hear you were backing out and regrouping. That right there made my day. Oh and I’ve got one last thing to say about their MP talk—Barebones baby, barebones.

Mark Lamia spoke to us a bit on the background of Black Ops. Unfortunately, I was so enthralled I forgot to take notes! I know, I know, I’m a horrible person. He did tell us a little bit about what Black Ops basically were—deniable operations during the Cold War as well as who the SOG were and how badass they were. Basically, he was pointing out why this game was going to be so awesome. As if we didn’t already know!

We got to go around the studio a little bit but obviously we weren’t allowed to see everything. We did get to see how they build and outfit characters. You’d be amazed at the research that goes into these games. The outfits characters wear in the game have been researched and made sure to look as authentic as possible. The lengths they went to get the uniform that a pilot wore to fly an SR-71 Blackbird—well, let’s just say it wasn’t easy but luckily NASA helped them out. The facial expressions and movements are also made to look as realistic as possible. This is done with tension mapping and motion capture technology. They utilize 200 cameras in order to do this. It is amazing to see a side-by-side comparison to show how advanced this technology is. They are really outdoing themselves with this game.

We also got to see the new tactics which they are employing for AI in the game. They have changed the AI to allow for evasive tactics. If you get an AI in your sights they will dodge you in one way or another. A few of the community members got to have a hands-on experience with this. They took on 4 AI rushers at once and let me tell you, as a spectator it did not look easy. I can’t wait to see this during gameplay.

We were told that there is a 2 person split-screen local co-op mode as well as a 4 person online co-op mode that is separate from the campaign. What does this mean? They didn’t tell us. I made my own conclusions from what they meant, I’ll let you do the same.

Well folks, that’s all I’ve got. I hope that I gave you a little insight of what is to come.

An apology to the Call of Duty Community

Due to confusion about the embargo on when we can talk about Call of Duty: Black Ops, my post has been removed until 12pm EST. At that point it will go back up in all its glory. I may even try to make it better in the mean time.

Just a Note Before Tomorrow

I just wanted to say this. I've received a couple of links to a site on which there is posted a translated article about Black Ops. Now, whether this is a legit article or not, I don't care. I don't need to see others' opinions or versions of what they may or may not have seen. I plan on posting what I saw, my thoughts and opinions on it, my hopes for the game. That being said, I hope you read what I write and form your own thoughts and opinions on it but take in everyone else's accounts of the game who were at the preview. Don't base your opinions solely on mine.

As I posted on Twitter earlier I WILL be posting at 9am EST. That is 6am PST for me. I must be dedicated to this game/franchise.

Call of Duty: World at War Zombies Now with Shi No Numa!

Well, not NOW now, but soon.

That's right boys and girls. They are in fact going to release Shi No Numa for the iPhone/iTouch app. I know a lot of people have asked about this map and would it ever be released. Well, the answer is yes! I don't have a date for which the map will be released but I do know that it will be. I also cannot tell you for sure if it will be released for the iPad, so, I'll go the safe route and just say that I know it will for the iPhone and iTouch.

It looks to be a great map. Hope this makes you all as happy as it makes me. I know I'll be getting it once it becomes available!

EDIT: The map will be sold as both a standalone app or an additional map like Verruckt. Oh, and there's gonna be hellhounds in there too!

Coming soon--info on Call of Duty: Black Ops!

So, on Friday, May 21 I got the chance to go to Treyarch to preview the new Call of Duty: Black Ops. There were quite a few of us there, all of the rest of them were guys. This really isn't surprising to me and I must admit they didn't treat me any differently because I was a girl. I was the only girl. They were a great group of guys from all over the country with different positions in the Call of Duty community--gamers, bloggers, forum admins, etc. Then there's me. Again, the only girl. I felt special.

Unfortunately, I can't talk about what we saw, not until Friday, May 28 at 9:00am EST. It's killing me! I would love to be able to go into details but unfortunately the embargo says no.

It was a great experience to say the least, especially when it came to meeting the people who bring it all to the community. Those guys (and girls behind the scenes) are amazing.

Please excuse the rambling as this is definitely new to me. So don't hate me, yet. And watch for Friday's post for sure!
